Nigel Reuel, PhD

Dr. Nigel Reuel is President of Zymosense and Associate Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at ISU. He is the co-inventor of the enzyme-assaying technology platform. He has 13+ years of direct experience working with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT). He brings industrial experience from his time at DuPont and extensive startup experience. Out of graduate school, he was the president and founder of Volvox Biologic Inc., which focused on the development of in-line sensors for antibody glycosylation using a SWCNT chassis for optical sensing. During his time at ISU, he founded two other companies, Frugi Biotechnology Inc., which was acquired by BigHat Biosciences Inc., in March 2022, and Skroot Laboratory Inc. which continues to scale in Ames, IA. He has demonstrated success in raising seed-stage funds, growing a team, and facilitating collaborations between startups with early-stage platform development companies and large, established companies.
